Emotionally Focused Therapy
This is a specialized type of therapy for couples counseling, also known as EFT. This is the most evidenced based approach to creating a strong and loving bond in your relationship.
This approach does not criminalize you for wanting a strong connection with your significant other, rather it embraces this desire as a fundamental human drive.

How Can Marriage Counseling Help?
In marriage counseling, you will experience a new way of communicating to one another. This helps foster a deep connection that makes it easier to talk about the struggles in your relationship.
Marriage is for the long term. Cultivating a strong connection of love and compassion will help you weather through any challenge in the present and future.
What We Help With
Dedicated Time and Space
One of the largest challenges we hear from couples is having a dedicated time and space to work on their relationship. Busy schedules, daily interruptions, and not knowing how to engage in difficult discussions can make it hard to make productive time at home. Phone calls, texts, kids, chores, and endless other distractions compete with time alone and without distraction to work on a better relationship. Having a space, time, and trained professional to lead these conversations will help to get you both on the same page, especially when it has been challenging to do it on your own.
Communication
You know your sticky points as a couple, but it may be difficult to move forward or become unstuck. We help to build better way to communicate clearly, to help you move away from feeling stuck.
We may have to talk about topics that lead to arguments often, topics you avoid, or topics that seems to always get swept under the rug. Helping you create ways to talk about these hard spots will be key to helping you re-establish that connection.
Parenting Issues
Couples often have different ways they parent or wish to parent their children. There are times where this creates tension and strain in the relationship. If this strain is not addressed, the parenting issues will only further cause damage to the household.
In marriage counseling, parents will learn how to talk resolve differences in parenting styles. Parenting is easier when you can have a discussion without conflict and can compromise.
Affairs/Emotional Cheating
A relationship is a bond between two people, where they share emotional and physical experiences. When that bond is threatened, it is devastating to a relationship. This type of hurt can lead to further breakdown of communication and drain the safety in the relationship. This is an injury to the relationship that will only grow if not treated.
In marriage counseling, we will work to create understanding around this injury to the relationship. Their is so much pain around what happened that it can be helpful to have a counselor help you both through the healing. Being able to slow down and talk about the injury without spinning out into anger, confusion, sadness, and hurt is where the healing starts.
Counseling Session & Individual Sessions
Marriage counseling is conducted with both of you in the session. There may be times the counselor will request to do an individual session with one or both of you. This would help focus on specific issues/experiences or work on building communication skills for the couples’ session.
The second and third session will be individual sessions for each of you. This is standard practice for both marriage and couples counseling. This will be to gather personal history and experience in the relationship.
