Do We Take Insurance?
I would love to say that we do take insurance but we do not accept insurance plans at this time. Unfortunately, the way insurance claims are handled add time and conflict of interests on the part of the clinician. It has been well documented in the mental health community the barriers often in place for mental health providers to deter payment and several lawsuits have occurred for this reason. The ethical, legal, and lack of control that come with accepting insurance has been why we do not accept any insurances.
We do provide "superbills" which can be turned into your insurance and applied to your appropriate benefits. Most insurances allow this but you would need to check with your specific insurance to see if they take "superbills" for out of network payment and how they process them. If we do provide a superbill, we will need to provide a mental health diagnosis for the document.
What makes counseling with Life Care Counseling worth the cost?
Focus is the biggest reason you should consider working with us. A short search results show that 9 out of 10 mental health professionals have been burnt out. A clinician that is burnt out is overworked and has lower performance. We have systems in place to stop this and it starts with our fee.
We only take on a smaller caseload. While other therapists take 20-30 clients, we see less than 15 a week. This helps us have more focus and energy for those sessions.
Why is burn out happening for so many counselors?
This is the same as any other professional field. There has been a surge in need for mental health and counselors have generally started to work more to compensate. If counselors work with insurance, they often get reimbursed at low rates that causes the need to take on more clients to earn a livable wage.
Clinicians that accept private pay only, often see less clients to manage burn out and allow more time for training and skill development. This also allows more time for self-care, which helps counselors perform better in session. Just like a well rested athlete competes better, so too does a counselor that has a smaller caseload.
